These attacks have become routine in Brazil, affecting both ordinary users and companies of different sizes
Brazil has consolidated itself as the largest cyberathel target in Latin America, recording more than 500,000 occurrences in the first half of 2025 alone, according to a survey by Check Point Research. The data reflects a worrying reality: digital attacks have become routine in the country, affecting both ordinary users and companies of different sizes.
Pharming, smishing e phishing They are among the fastest growing digital threats in the world, exploring human vulnerabilities and techniques for stealing data, credentials and even money. Although increasingly frequent, many users are still unaware of how they work and what measures adopt to protect themselves.
For Daniel Tieppo, a cybersecurity expert and executive director of Hexadigital, prevention is the main weapon against this type of threat. “These blows exploit people’s confidence and inattention. So the first step is to understand how they work to avoid falling into digital traps. In addition, companies need to strengthen internal processes and adopt real -time monitoring and protection technologies,” he explains.
Below, understand the three most common digital blows and how to protect yourself from them.
1. Pharming: The invisible blow that exchanges your destination online
O pharming Redirects the user invisibly for false websites even when the correct address is entered. This can occur due to failures on DNA servers (Domain Name System) or by malware installed on the victim’s device.
“In the case of pharmingattention should be in three points: manually type the address of sensitive websites, distrust subtle changes in the appearance of the pages and always keep the systems and antivirus updated. These precautions greatly reduce the risk of falling into this type of trap, ”says Daniel Tieppo.
2. Smishing: When a simple SMS becomes a trap
O smishing It is a stroke via SMS, where false messages induce the victim to click malicious links or share personal information. Usually, they pass banks, operators or delivery services.
“Never click links received by SMS if you have not requested that contact. In addition, do not share passwords or codes by message and activate spam filters on mobile. This simple habit already avoids most attempts at fraud via smishing“, Warns the expert.
3. Phishing: The most common digital bait on the internet
O phishing It is the most common form of digital attack. It uses emails, social networks, or messaging applications to pass for reliable institutions, inducing the victim to provide sensitive data such as logins, passwords and card numbers.
“The main tip against the phishing It is always checking the sender before clicking on links or opening attachments. I also recommend enabling authentication in two factors and participating in training digital awarenessespecially in corporate environments. The information remains the best defense against this type of coup, ”says hexadigital executive director.
Awareness and shared responsibility
Daniel Tieppo points out that fighting these crimes is a shared responsibility. “The user needs to adopt safer digital habitswhile companies should invest in awareness policies and defense technologies. The combination of education and prevention is the best strategy against online blows, ”he concludes.
