Fast-paced routine, excess stimulation and daily pressure can mask important signs

Taking care of your mind is as important as taking care of your body. Although the conversation about mental health has advanced in recent years, many people are still slow to recognize signs that something is not going well emotionally.

For neuropsychologist Aline Graffiette, CEO of Mental One, the fast-paced routine, excess stimuli and everyday pressures cause many people to ignore important symptoms. “Often, people only seek help when the suffering is already very intense. But mental health also needs preventive care. There are signs in everyday life that indicate that something needs attention”, he explains.

Below, the neuropsychologist highlights some signs that may indicate the need to look more closely at emotional well-being. Check it out!

1. Constant tiredness, even after resting

Feeling exhausted all the time, without a clear physical cause, could be a sign of emotional or mental overload. “When we are dealing with high levels of stress or anxiety, the brain remains in a state of alert. This consumes a lot of energy and can generate a permanent feeling of exhaustion”, says Aline Graffiette.

2. Irritability or frequent mood swings

Outbursts of irritation, impatience, or mood swings may indicate that the person is emotionally overwhelmed. “When we are under constant pressure, our tolerance decreases. Small situations start to generate much greater reactions than expected”, he explains.

3. Difficulty concentrating

Problems focusing on simple tasks, frequent forgetfulness or a feeling of a “fuzzy” mind can also be linked to excess stress or anxiety. “The overloaded brain has more difficulty organizing information and maintaining attention,” says the neuropsychologist.

4. Changes in sleep

Sleeping poorly, waking up often during the night or having difficulty falling asleep are common signs of emotional imbalance. “Sleep is one of the first aspects affected when mental health is not good. Racing thoughts and worries make it difficult to get adequate rest”, he says.

5. Loss of interest in activities that were previously enjoyable

When a person starts to lose interest in hobbiessocial gatherings or activities that previously brought pleasure, this may indicate a warning sign. “This separation is usually an indication that something needs to be taken care of emotionally”, explains Aline Graffiette.

Recognizing these signs is the first step in seeking help and develop healthier strategies to deal with everyday challenges. “The sooner a person seeks support, the easier it is to understand what is happening and find ways to regain balance”, concludes Aline Graffiette.
