From heroes in epic fantasy to furry creatures and satire, Thursday promises to shake up the schedule

For film lovers, the first Thursday in June brings together premieres for different tastes: large-scale action and adventure, romantic fantasy in an alternative world, Spanish historical drama, national animation inspired by northeastern culture and a family adventure with furry creatures.

1. Masters of the Universe
Almost 40 years after the last live-actionHe-Man finally returns to the screen with a new adventure. Directed by Travis Knight with a script by Chris Butler, the film follows Prince Adam, who needs to retrieve a sword mythical to become the warrior He-Man and save the kingdom of Eternia from the clutches of the villain Skeletor and his evil army.
Nicholas Galitzine plays the protagonist, alongside Camila Mendes — who gave Brazilian roots to the character Teela —, Alison Brie as the villain Evil-Lyn and Idris Elba as Duncan, the Man-At-Arms. To prepare for the role, Galitzine followed an intense weight training regimen of three hours a day consuming five thousand calories per day.
2. 100 Nights of Desire
For those looking for something more intimate and unusual, the romantic fantasy directed and written by Julia Jackman takes place in the alternative world of Darkly End, controlled by the despotic Birdman. Cherry lives in an unhappy marriage with the distant Jerome, with her only joy of the day being her confidant and devoted maid Hero, who is part of a secret organization that preserves stories of women erased from history. The dynamic becomes complicated when Jerome travels and leaves his wife alone with Manfred, his charming and lecherous friend. Emma Corrin, Nicholas Galitzine and Maika Monroe star in the film, with singer Charli xcx in the cast.
3. 8 Decades of Love
Winner of the Audience Award at the 28th Malaga Festival, the Spanish drama directed and written by Julio Medem follows Adela and Octavio, two characters who were born on the same day: April 14, 1931, the date of the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic. Despite living in the same city, their origins are opposite — she is simple and humble; he lives in excellent conditions.
Fate brings them together repeatedly over decades, as Spain crosses the dictatorshipthe Second World War and the transition to democracy. Even though they marry other people, the flame between the two never goes out. Javier Rey and Ana Rujas star, with Álvaro Morte in the cast.
4. Cordelicos: The Origin of the Plague Goat
The national animation directed by Alê McHaddo delves into the universe of the Brazilian backlands with lots of adventure, humor and references to northeastern culture. In the plot, a group of irreverent adventurers have their lives turned upside down after stealing the mysterious plans of a time machine — and becoming the target of the legendary and feared Plague Goat. During a chase full of confusion, danger and absurd situations, the group ends up divided between different eras, facing unexpected historical figures and distorted versions of the backlands itself.
As they try to find their way back, they discover secrets about the origins of their pursuer and a threat capable of altering the fate of time. With voices by Bruno Garcia, Tadeu Mello and Marcelo Mansfield, the film is a 100% Brazilian production that bets on the cultural richness of the Northeast to deliver a fun adventure full of personality.
5. The Hairy 2
The animation introduces the Finns — furry creatures that inhabit human homes to take care of the home and guard the stove. Finnick is a mischievous young Finn who has never had a family willing to stay at his house for long, until a new one arrives and he meets 13-year-old Christine. Together, the two need to come together to solve mysteries that begin to happen in the city. Directed by Denis Chernov, with a script by Tatiana Belova and the director himself, the production is a light and fun adventure for the whole family. family enjoy in movie theaters.
