During winter, it’s natural for your wardrobe to undergo changes — and your nails also follow this transformation. Following the movement of the fashion industry, which adapts to the characteristics of each season, autumn’s most vibrant nail polishes give way to closed and sophisticated tones. Wine, warm nude and different variations of gray, for example, stand out, translating the season into classic enamels and shiny finishes.
According to Valter Ferreira, hairdresser, colorist and beauty professional at Espaço Vann Beauté, this movement occurs because nails have become part of the construction of personal image, following the same concept applied to hair and makeup. “Today the client seeks harmony in their appearance. The choice of nail color matches the haircut, makeup, clothes and even personality. Beauty has become much more integrated”, he explains.
nail polish trends for winter
Among the colors that should dominate the coming months, the expert highlights: intense wine, coffee brown, cappuccino, plum, burgundy, burnt caramel, terracotta, warm nude and sophisticated grays. You creamy finishes and high-gloss enamels remain the preference of most customers, although discreet metallic enamels are also gaining ground.
For Valter Ferreira, in addition to the influence of the catwalks, social networks accelerated the spread of nail fashions. “Today, a trend that appears in an international fashion show or on social media quickly reaches salons. Clients arrive with ready-made references and try to reproduce that style that conveys elegance and modernity”, he says.
Minimalism, sophistication and practicality gain space
In addition to classic colors, Valter Ferreira observes a growth in demand for minimalist enamels, revamped francesinhas and nail arts discreet, which use delicate details without losing the elegance characteristic of winter.
According to him, the current trend favors a more timeless beauty, capable of combining with different occasions. Another characteristic observed this winter is the preference for short or medium length nails, with rounded and almond shapeswhich combine sophistication and practicality for routine.
How to choose the ideal color?
Valter Ferreira highlights that the choice of color must respect each person’s style and identity, and not just follow trends. “Fashion inspires, but the client is the one who defines the best choice. When she feels comfortable and confident with the color she is wearing, this appears in the way she presents herself. Beauty always starts with authenticity”, she states.
For him, winter is one of the most elegant seasons of the year and offers countless possibilities to renew your look in a sophisticated way. “Nails are a detail that makes all the difference. A well-chosen color conveys care, personality and complements the entire look. More than following trends, the important thing is to find what enhances each woman and makes her feel beautiful on any occasion”, he points out.
For Valter Ferreira, winter also requires extra attention to hand and nail care. Low temperatures, lower air humidity and frequent contact with hot water can cause cuticles to dry out and increase nail fragility. “There’s no point in choosing a beautiful color if your nails and cuticles are dry. Hydration is part of beauty. Specific creams and oils for cuticles help maintain a healthy appearance throughout the season”, he concludes.
