Motherhood transforms the routine and priorities of many women. Between responsibilities and trying to balance different areas of life, it is common for self-care to take a backseat.

Small moments of pause, rest or movement can make a difference in your mood, mental balance and even your relationship with motherhood.

When personal care falls by the wayside

The attempt to handle everything at the same time makes many mothers prioritize only the family’s needs, leaving personal care in second place.

Bodytech’s marketing assistant, Karine Oliveira, reports that she lived this experience in practice. “I was often overly careful trying to balance everything, and that ended up being bad for both of us. I was very afraid of not being able to handle it and ended up leaving myself aside”, he says. This behavior is common in motherhood and can generate physical and emotional overload over time.

Self-care is a way of caring for your children

Creating space for yourself may seem difficult in an intense routine, but including moments of self-care is important to preserve physical and emotional balance.

According to Bodytech’s technical director, Eduardo Netto, planning these breaks as part of the family routine helps reduce the guilt often associated with personal care. “Taking care of yourself strengthens your physical and mental health to better care for your child”, she highlights.

Karine also highlights that her perception of self-care changed throughout motherhood. “Today I understand that, if I am not well physically and mentally, I will not be able to take care of her in the way she deserves”, he says. This understanding reinforces the importance of seeing self-care as part of building a more balanced and sustainable motherhood.

Small breaks make a difference

Self-care doesn’t need to be linked to big changes. In many cases, short breaks help to improve your mood and emotional balance on a daily basis. Among the practices that can contribute to this process are:

  • Reserve a few minutes for physical activity;
  • Create moments of rest without interruptions;
  • Meeting friends or maintaining leisure activities.

According to Karine Oliveira, these moments function as a form of emotional recovery within an intense routine. “As the mother doesn’t have a day off and the responsibility is 24 hours a day, self-care becomes essential. Having even half an hour for physical activity or a coffee with friends is what allows us to recharge”, she reports.

The mother’s well-being is a fundamental part of healthy motherhood. Small moments of pause throughout the day are enough to promote significant changes in the quality of life.
