This Argentine drama, directed by Juan Cabral, with a script by the director himself in partnership with Pablo Minces, follows Risa, a 10-year-old girl who unexpectedly loses her father. In the midst of her grief, she discovers something unusual: a phone booth with magical powers that allows her to talk to people beyond life. This contact makes her face a reality she never imagined possible. The cast brings together Fabian Casas, Cazzu and Joaquín Furriel. The film is a sensitive story about loss, longing and the particular way children deal with what adults cannot explain.

2. The Night Shift Fans – 06/04

Coming from Indonesia, the comedy created by Monica Vanesa Tedja presents Jenar and Muti, two inseparable friends who work together in a grocery store in Jakarta and share a common passion: they are fanatics of the group of k-pop Purple Tea. When the group announces the biggest show of their career in Seoul, the two begin to calculate how to make their dream experience possible without giving up their financial responsibilities. Mental and work fatigue test their limits throughout the journey. Shenina Cinnamon, Nadya Syarifa and Emir Mahira lead the production’s cast.

3. The Witness – 06/04

Based on a real British case from the 1990s, “The Witness” exposes the impact of a brutal crime on the lives of a child and his father over the years (Image: Digital reproduction | Netflix)

Based on one of the UK’s most landmark criminal cases of the 1990s, the miniseries follows the murder of Rachel Nickell, a 23-year-old girl who was brutally attacked in 1992 in Wimbledon Common while walking with her son Alex, then just two years old. The focus of the production is on the child, the only witness to the crime, and on André Hanscombe, Alex’s father, who had to deal simultaneously with grief, media exposure and protecting his son.

The series also exposes the institutional failures that marked the case: an innocent suspect was persecuted, investigated by questionable means and was arrested, while the real culprit was only identified and convicted years later, in the 2000s. The production is also based on the book “The Last Thursday in July”, written by André Hanscombe himself about the experience.

4. Mexico 1986 – 05/06

For those who have already gotten into the World Cup spirit, the Mexican historical comedy directed by Gabriel Ripstein — with a script by Ripstein and Daniel Krauze — comes at the right time. The film follows Mexico’s unlikely bid to host the 1986 World Cup, when the country took on the organization of the tournament in a bold way and against all odds, thanks to the ingenuity of its organizers. With lots of humor and historical details, the production revisits one of the most memorable moments in Latin American football. Diego Luna, Karla Souza, Alvaro Guerrero and Daniel Giménez Cacho are in the cast.

5. Learning the Lesson – 05/06

“Learning the Lesson” follows the creation of a South Korean government agency founded in response to the rise in cases of violence in schools. Teachers recruited to the initiative are authorized to use any means necessary to discipline delinquent students and restore order to the educational system.

Kim Mu-yeol, known for “The Gangster, the Policeman and the Devil”, plays the agency supervisor, alongside Jin Ki-joo as the investigator who becomes his right-hand man. The cast also includes Lee Sung-min, Pyo Ji-hoon and Ha Young. The script is written by Lee Nam-kyu and directed by Hong Jong-chan.
