For a long time, studying, working well and delivering results were seen as the natural way to achieve promotions and recognition. But that logic has changed. Today, in addition to technical competence, companies value professionals who can communicate their work, influence people and participate in strategic decisions.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2025 report, skills such as analytical thinking, leadership, social influence and continuous learning are among the most important for the coming years.
For Fernanda Tochetto, psychologist, businesswoman, leadership development specialist and founder of the Tittanium Club, many people continue to be stuck with the idea that good performance will be recognized automatically.
“There is an entire generation that learned that it was enough to work hard and expect recognition. The market has changed. Today, competence without perceived value can become an invisible asset within companies”, he states.
The invisible professional
In the expert’s opinion, one of the most common mistakes is believing that showing results means self-promotion. “There is an important difference between self-promotion and professional positioning. The first seeks attention. The second builds clarity about the real ability to generate results”, he states.
According to her, some behaviors tend to hinder professional growth:
- Deliver a lot, but communicate results little;
- Remain only in operational roles;
- Avoid contact with leaders;
- Participate little in strategic projects;
- Being afraid to demonstrate professional ambition.
“The myth of ‘my work speaks for me’ still holds many good people back. Work well done is a premise. Growth also depends on the way its value is perceived by the right people”, emphasizes Fernanda Tochetto.
Networking is also part of the career
Another factor that has gained importance is building professional relationships. For Fernanda Tochetto, opportunities usually arise through connections established inside and outside the company.
“Career is also built by the environment, by the conversations you participate inby the environments in which she circulates and by the way her name appears when decisions are being made”, she states. She emphasizes that this does not mean getting into political disputes, but building relationships of trust and reputation throughout her professional career.
Three attitudes to unlock your career
According to the expert, three pillars help to accelerate professional growth:
1. Invest in technical competence
Staying up to date remains essential to delivering consistent results.
2. Learn to communicate your value
Saber present projectsresults and impacts increases the perception of your contribution to the company.
3. Strengthen your network of contacts
Participating in projects, events and strategic conversations increases visibility and creates opportunities.
“Those who continue to wait for passive recognition may face increasing frustration. The market has started to value professionals who deliver, influence and manage to make visible the value they generate”, concludes Fernanda Tochetto.
