On social media, singer Juliette worried fans by revealing that she faced a bout of liver inflammation during a trip to Salvador. According to the artist, she needed medical attention after feeling severe pain and experiencing episodes of vomiting and intense discomfort. In recovery, she appeared in the videos with a swollen face and stated that she will continue to undergo tests to investigate the origin of the problem.

The repercussion of the case rekindled the alert about liver health care. This is because many liver diseases They evolve silently, which means that the symptoms are ignored or confused with simpler everyday problems. When physical manifestations appear, the body may be demonstrating significant overload.

Therefore, according to gastroenterologist Michel Fernandes, persistent symptoms should never be trivialized. “The liver is a silent organ. Many people only discover changes during routine exams or when the condition is more advanced. Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, intense fatigue and body swelling can indicate that there is an important inflammatory process taking place”, he explains.

The doctor also highlights that fluid retention and facial edema may appear in some conditions. “When there is liver inflammation, the body may respond with a feeling of bloating, edema and changes in metabolism. Furthermore, the patient may experience loss of appetite, fever and abdominal discomfort”, he warns.

Lifestyle, medications and supplements affect the liver

Inflammation in the liver is not just related to alcohol consumption. Habits considered common in modern routine can also directly impact the functioning of the organ. According to endocrinologist Patrícia Gracitelle, the increase in cases of the disease in young people is linked to lifestyle and the excess of substances metabolized by the liver.

“Today we see many patients with liver overload related to a diet rich in ultra-processed foods, stress, hormonal changes and a sedentary lifestyle. Even those who do not consume alcohol can develop liver disease”, he warns.

She also draws attention to the indiscriminate use of medications and supplements. “There is a false sense of security in relation to over-the-counter products or supplements used for aesthetics and performance. The liver is responsible for metabolizing these substances and excess can cause significant inflammation”, he explains.

Invest in habits that help protect liver health

Prevention is still considered the main strategy for reducing the risk of inflammation and other liver diseases. Small changes in your routine can make a significant difference in how your body functions. Patrícia Gracitelle reinforces that a balanced diet and physical activity are fundamental pillars.

Proper hydrationregular exercise, controlling body weight and eating a diet rich in natural foods directly help with liver health. The body usually gives signs of a worsening, so it is important to pay attention to your own body”, he says.

Michel Fernandes adds that periodic exams are also essential, especially for people with risk factors. “Many liver changes only appear in laboratory tests. Regular medical monitoring helps with early diagnosis and prevents progression to more serious conditions”, he says.

Seek medical evaluation if you experience persistent symptoms

Experts reinforce that self-medication and attempts to treat symptoms without guidance can further worsen the condition. When liver inflammation is suspected, medical investigation is essential to identify the cause and define appropriate treatment.

“There are different types of liver inflammation and each one requires specific monitoring. The most important thing is not to ignore the body’s signals and seek medical evaluation as soon as possible”, concludes Michel Fernandes.
