Makeup artist explains which changes to your beauty routine help keep your finish balanced and comfortable in autumn-winter

The arrival of autumn marks a silent turning point in your beauty routine. Temperatures begin to drop, air humidity decreases and the skin starts to respond differently to makeup. If in summer the challenge was to prevent the make melted, in the colder seasons the main obstacle becomes another: dryness.

Wind, hot baths, even air-conditioned environments contribute to the loss of natural hydration in the skin, which directly interferes with fixation. Foundations can highlight the skin’s texture, concealers tend to show more and the finish, in general, can lose uniformity and freshness throughout the day.

For Chloé Gaya, makeup artist and artistic director of the Jacques Janine network, understanding this change is essential to adapting the make to the station. “In autumn-winter, makeup needs to follow the skin’s behavior. It becomes naturally more sensitive and dry, so the priority stops being control and becomes preserving balance”, he explains.

As temperatures drop and air humidity decreases, first undergoes a natural adaptation. Oil production decreases, while hydration loss tends to increase, leaving the skin surface more sensitive to climate variations. Chloé Gaya explains that understanding the skin’s behavior during the season is the first step to ensuring beautiful makeup.

“In autumn-winter, the skin demands comfort. When it is drier, any makeup tends to highlight signs that did not appear in warmer seasons. Therefore, it is important to invest in skin preparation”, he explains. The recommendation is to prioritize gentle cleansing and reinforce hydration with nourishing formulas. These steps help restore the skin, avoiding marked texture, cracking and dullness throughout the day.

Shielding: the first step towards comfortable makeup

During this period, skin preparation becomes even more important. Shielding products work as the first preparation step before makeup, helping to protect the skin and increase product adhesion.

“Formulas that, in addition to fixing, hydrate the skin make even more of a difference in the result, because they help preserve the skin’s balance throughout the day. An example is Blindagem Fix Tudo, from Dailus, which brings this benefit by combining fixation with care active ingredients, such as rosehip oil and vitamin E. This makes the makeup last without compromising comfort,” says Chloé Gaya.

Do you need to change your foundation in autumn-winter?

Many people believe that, with the arrival of lower temperatures, it is necessary to change the finish of the foundation to maintain a good makeup result. However, Chloé Gaya explains that the main adjustment is not in the product itself, but in preparing the skin. “In the cold, the skin tends to become drier and more sensitive, and this changes the way makeup behaves. When the preparation is adequate, the foundation maintains its normal performance”, he explains.

According to the professional, “the secret is to work with lighter layers, reinforce care before makeup and adapt the techniquerather than simply replacing products.” A well-prepared skin, combined with the use of shielding before makeup, helps to create a more uniform surface, allowing the foundation to maintain a comfortable and natural finish throughout the day, regardless of the effect chosen.

Finishing and freshness throughout the day

After the makeup is complete, facial mist is used to fix and maintain the look. Applied after makeit helps to seal the finish and better integrate the layers of product, leaving the result more natural and uniform.

“It works as the final touch of makeup. It helps to fix the result and restore freshness to the skin without weighing it down”, explains the makeup artist. Throughout the day, it can revitalize makeup and reactivate the appearance of the skin. “Some products contain treatment active ingredients in the formula and can be used to reinforce the freshness of the skin and makeup”, he recommends.

Makeup accompanies a new perception of beauty

The adaptation of makeup to the cold seasons also reflects a broader shift in consumer behavior. Instead of just looking for high coverage or long duration, interest is growing in products that combine makeup and skin care.

The result is a more comfortable beauty, in which performance and well-being go hand in hand, reinforcing the protagonism of the skincare within contemporary makeup. More than following trends, autumn-winter makeup now reflects a beauty that prioritizes balance, comfort and naturalness, following the calmer and more introspective rhythm of the season.
